I believe transparency and merit should replace backroom deals and political favoritism in the federal budgeting process. Whether named earmarks, line items, tax breaks, or appropriations for special projects or markets, they should be completely transparent. If an appropriation of our federal tax dollars can’t survive public scrutiny, then remove it. It is foolishly inefficient to send our money to Washington DC, and hope to get a portion of it back for projects that should have been locally funded in the first place. Projects with no basis in the constitution should not be funded by the federal government.
